Threads of Fate

One of my favorite classic tales is The Iliad- an ancient greek tale of fate, destiny, and bravery. The greeks thought of fate as a thread, interwoven by three goddesses into a tangled web that formed a person's destiny. To convewy this main theme of the book, I hand-stitched red thread onto a sheet of cardboard, making sure to sew all of the points I had plotted out before in illustrator. The threads span across the front, spine, and back cover, forming the title of the book as well as Homer's name. The sleeves of the dust cover also feature hand stitched hour glasses, symbolizing the mortality the characters are wrestling with. Lastly, the fictional publisher's mark references the famed Trojan Horse found within the book. This was my first book cover, and I am immensely fond of it to this day.
