Stick Season

I was introduced to Noah Kahan by a dear friend of mine, and he swiftly became one of my favorite musicians. His album "Stick Season," deals with a feeling of never being able to mentally escape his hometown in Vermont, and uses imagery of the state's winter known as stick season and the dullness of the landscape to draw comparisons to his mental health problems. There are a lot of references to attempts to drive away but never really getting anywhere. The detailed lyrics called to mind an image of a car amongst leafless trees, rusted and abandoned and covered in dead vines and branches. I hand- painted the image with oil paints, and used it as the cover for the album re-design. I continued the trend of physical media onto the back, finding a shady spot under a tree, snapping and arranging sticks to create the title. The backgrounds of the booklet pages are mostly analogue as well, including scans of dried leaves and flowers. Some illustrations are present as well, roughly drawn to match the slightly manic tone of the lyrics.
