Snippets

I wanted to include a more experimental project in my portfolio. I had been thinking about a zine called "snippets" for months-- one which would highlight the way a designer sees the world around them. I wrote a manifesto on this topic, and used imagery that was exclusively edited from my camera roll. I edited all of the images to be more interesting compositions that highlighted the features that designers can notice in an ordinary image. I created a pocket in my zine with a key that showed the original image that was used in each page.

Manifesto

The manifesto I wrote is as follows: "Designers think in textures, colors, shapes, structure, lines and spaces. We see recognize patterns where others see random noise, storing them away for inspirations later. We are always searching, looking for a fragment of the world that will let us create something entirely unique. There is a great excitement in stopping in your tracks, noticing the shape of a rock or the rivers and valleys of bark on a tree. You capture that snippet and make it into part of something bigger. We get excited about the hundreds or possibilities for the images we collect, what color or value should we use to make a creation breathe on the screen. Our value lies not in our knowledge of software, but in the hours we spent to re-train our brains- years of studying structure, form, and relationships. It is impossible to shut our brains off- we are always thinking about what we can create- inspired by every sliver of the world around us."
